The Cardiothoracic Surgery Research Laboratory in the Department of Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia is seeking a self-motivated hard working individual to perform small animal surgery as well as a variety of molecular laboratory techniques. The candidate must be able to work in a fast paced, dynamic work environment. They must be clean, neat and organized with a general understanding of laboratory practices. They will use independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques and assist in protocol design. Candidate will review literature for related research developments and techniques and compile findings to propose alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a Principal Investigator. They will also assist in planning and scheduling research procedures, as well as demonstrating and training others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment. Candidate will calibrate, troubleshoot and perform routine repair and maintenance of equipment as needed. Most importantly they will maintain records, files and logs of work preformed in notebooks and databases and compile results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
It is desired but not required for the candidate to have experience in 1) Tissue extraction and animal surgery 2) ELISA and colorimetric assays 3) Western blotting 4) Culturing primary cell lines, cloning, developing stable cell lines, and designing and creating constructs 5) DNA/RNA techniques such as DNA/RNA isolation and genotyping 6) Protein isolation/purification and 7) HPLC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in a scientific field and 2-3 years of research experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
