An immediate position is available at the Schepens Eye Research Institute for a Program Project Coordinator who will be responsible for overseeing the administrative core of a 2 year multi-investigator project designed to develop new approaches for treating methicillin-resistant and vancomycin-resistant infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus and the enterococci. This position is funded for 23 months.
Responsibilities will include, but not limited to; serving as the main liaison to participating individuals and their respective institutions; overseeing the safe conduct of research involving novel antibiotic resistant pathogens; insuring that the scientific aims and milestones of the project are met and informing the Principal Investigator of any deviations from the planned research and financial course; monitoring grant accounting functions and the awardee institution’s accuracy and timeliness in distribution of sub-contracts; working with each subproject investigator and core directors to develop a plan that correlates achievement of specific aims to its milestones and finances that will be used as an overarching project management scheme; reviewing quarterly program project progress and identifying potential problem areas; preparing milestone reports to the funding agency; coordinating and participating at the monthly Scientific Steering Committee meetings and responsible for recording the proceedings of these meetings; and providing quarterly reports to key personnel and NIAID Program Officer.
The successful candidate must possess a PhD or MD; have an understanding of gram positive bacterial infection; experience in overseeing safety regulations and management of projects that involve antibiotic resistant clinical isolates; demonstrated expertise with MRSA; and experience interacting and interfacing with NIH and pharmaceutical companies.
