Skills Inc is an Aerospace Finishing and Manufacturing company. Our Ballard Facility is currently seeking a Haz-Mat / Chemical Maintenance Technician. The right candidate must have excellent communication skills.
SUMMARY Responsible for chemical maintenance in the anodize process. This person’s primary responsibility is to monitor, test, and adjust the process solutions for such purposes as process control, quality control, and waste treatment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sets up, adjusts, calibrates, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as pH meters, laboratory balances, and ORP meters.
Prepares process solutions to comply with customer specifications. Monitors city and De-Ionized water consumption on a daily basis.
Completes and records all daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly self inspections, reports and files as appropriate.
Performs periodic process characteristic tests such as determining the etch rates for the alkaline etch baths, and the hydrating ability of certain sealing solutions.
Records all test results in standardized log books and digital logs and writes reports describing procedures used. Prepares graphs, charts, and other reports as needed.
Cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment and glassware.
Takes samples of all process tanks, and ensures the samples are delivered to an outside laboratory once a week.
Performs treatability studies on spent process solutions, and rinse waters to determine the appropriate chemical treatment.
Performs chemical treatment of spent process solutions, and rinse waters.
Designates waste generated on site through characteristics and criteria, and works with appropriate waste treatment and disposal facilities for off-site waste management.
Assist the Paint Shop Haz-Mat Technician in the handling and management of waste materials in that area.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent; college level chemistry; one year experience in the handling of chemicals; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Basic computer literacy in Windows environment and basic literacy in MS Office
Ability to read work instructions and procedures in English
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
Ability to lift 40 lbs, open and close sample jars, cans, boxes, etc. Must be physically able to wear a respirator.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, algebra, and proportions to practical situations.
Excellent visual acuity required including close vision
Excellent communication and people skills to advise employees of quality requirements
Ability to move around the shop as needed to inspect work as required
Ability to work in a laboratory, office setting and industrial plant setting.
