Position Summary
Initiate, coordinate, and implement new product initiatives on new and existing products. Execute research and development responsibilities aligned with various areas of the business: procurement, quality assurance, production, and marketing. Responsible for product development of new product formulas, shelf life and food safety.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and approve formulas, processing procedures, raw material and final product
Evaluate and approve ingredient specifications and assist with implementation of processing techniques and specifications
Assist with technical solutions to production issues as it relates to ingredient, formulas, processing procedures, to ensure consistent quality and food safety
Document all work according to established procedures and guidelines
Keep abreast of new innovations in food trends, ingredients, processes and competitive products and developments in packer community
Accountable for product development activities from ideation to first production
Ensure food safety of product formulations
Ensure all product quality meets company product brand standards
Attend plant trials and first productions to ensure on quality implementation of new products
Document product formulations, keep on file, and assist in development of final product specifications
Review products at every stage of the product development cycle (concept to production) to ensure product standards are maintained
Responsible for specifying customer preparation instructions of products
Responsible for ingredient and nutritional data of new products
Experience & Skills
Minimum 5 7 years experience in food product/research & development
Seafood or frozen food experience is a plus but not required
Must have knowledge and understanding of food ingredients, food chemistry, food processing, and food functionality.
