The Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) is a center of scientific excellence in research and therapy of autoimmune diseases, such as diabetes and arthritis, and promotes clinical and interdisciplinary research, particularly in cancer, neuroscience, and heart disease. BRI is celebrating its 53rd year as Washington State’s oldest medical research institute with over 200 employees and a $26 million budget in 2008.
The primary task for this position will be to perform a novel screen for minor histocompatibility antigens using CD8+ T-cells derived from Bone Marrow Stem cell transplant recipients. The duties required will be to design, assemble and express novel synthetic expression libraries. Libraries will be electroporated into donor antigen presenting cells for use as targets for in-vitro stimulations and ELISPOT assays. The Staff Scientist will be responsible for helping to write manuscripts describing the results of these efforts. The Staff Scientist will also be asked to assist in supervising technicians and volunteers working on other projects as needed. A Ph.D., M.D., or M.D/Ph.D, is required.
