The Allen Institute for Brain Science, located in Seattle, Washington, is comprised of a multidisciplinary staff committed to understanding how the brain works and helping to unlock the mysteries of neurological diseases and disorders affecting millions worldwide. We have the following full-time, temporary job opportunity for a Research Assistant in our Microscopy group:

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Research Assistant coordinates, monitors, and confirms the execution of time critical work in the Microscopy lab. The Research Assistant may also be assigned and responsible for executing experiments in the above mentioned area that are associated with troubleshooting, quality improvement and new process development initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate and monitor daily work assignments/processes within the Microscopy suite.
Trouble shoot equipment errors.
Execute microscopy related experiments defined by the engineering and/or neuroscience groups.
Maintain required documentation.
Follow standard operating procedures and good laboratory practices.
Ensure the correct paper trail accompanies the processes and communicate potential problems to Supervisor and scientists.
Perform quality control checks on all scanned images.
Other duties as assigned.

MS Office (2007 preferred)

Education/Experience/Certifications
Associate’s degree (A.A.) from accredited institution preferred
6 12 months of laboratory experience is required
Experience with bright field microscopy preferred
Experience in a high-throughput, deadline driven environment is preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Laboratory atmosphere - possible exposure to chemical, biological or other hazardous substances
Able to lift or move up to 40 lbs.
Able to sit for extended periods of time
This position may require weekend work
