Seattle Biomedical Research Institute (SBRI) is an independent non-profit organization devoted to the research of global infectious disease. Two Research Technician positions are available in the Malaria research program in the laboratory of Dr. Joseph Smith at SBRI.
Position 1: Responsibilities include parasite tissue culture, molecular biological techniques, and ordering and maintaining supplies for the laboratory. The primary role of this individual will be to work with a team that is investigating protein trafficking in the malaria parasite. Previous experience in tissue culture and molecular biology is preferred.
Position 2: Responsibilities include mammalian cell tissue culture, molecular biological techniques recombinant protein expression and purification, and ordering and maintaining supplies for the laboratory. The primary role of this individual will be to work with a team that is developing vaccine antigens against the malaria parasite. Previous experience in heterologous protein expression systems, such as P. pastoris, E. coli, or mammalian cells is preferred.
Requirements: Qualifications include a B.S. or M.S. in biological sciences. Good organizational skills, ability to focus on multiple priorities, and adaptability are required. Must be available for occasional work on weekends and evenings.
