The Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) is a center of scientific excellence in research and therapy of autoimmune diseases, such as diabetes and arthritis, and promotes clinical and interdisciplinary research, particularly in cancer, neuroscience, and heart disease. This position is 50% animal care duties and 50% glass wash and restocking lab glassware. The Animal Care Assistant is needed to provide for the basic husbandry needs of the rodents housed in the Vivarium by cleaning and sterilizing caging and other equipment while maintaining supplies and the general appearance and cleanliness of the facility. Duties include emptying dirty cages, operating cage washers, filling water bottles, wrapping items to be sterilized, operating autoclaves, cleaning shelves, and sweeping and mopping floors. The Lab Aide I will provide investigator support by washing, autoclaving, and restocking lab glassware. Duties also include restocking chemical and blood spill kits and checking the operation of eyewash stations, cold rooms, autoclaves and water purifiers. Must be able to operate glassware and cage cleaning/sterilizing equipment; requires continuous standing, ability to push/pull 50 pounds, and lift/carry 40 pounds.
Training is provided and no experience is necessary. Prior lab experience or coursework in science is preferred.
