Temple Ohabei Shalom, a dynamic Reform synagogue, in Brookline, Mass. seeks Executive Director to serve as its chief operating officer. The Executive Director facilitates and ensures the successful operation of the organization through management of administration, finance, fundraising, membership, communication, and operations. He/she directs, monitors and supervises activities in the institution in accordance with the mission, by-laws, and policies of the organization and as directed by the Board of Trustees. The Executive Director reports to the President of the congregation and the Senior Rabbi, and collaborates closely with staff and lay leaders. S/he has excellent interpersonal skills, experience in management, financial acumen, commitment to the mission and values of the synagogue, and promotes the growth, vibrancy and essential character of the synagogue.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree and some formal Jewish education
High moral character and ability to uphold Jewish values and ethics in all respects
Understanding of, and commitment, to Reform Judaism and to taking an active role in synagogue life
Management experience, preferably in another non-profit membership organization
Ability to think strategically and effectively implement goals
Knowledge of finance and budgeting
Familiarity with synagogue programs, policies, and financial matters
Understanding of various laws and regulations pertaining to not-for-profits and religious organizations
Understanding of building management and operations
Strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to interact warmly, diplomatically and effectively with diverse groups
Positive, can-do attitude and work ethic
Ability to make decisions quickly and professionally while showing enthusiasm and initiative
Ability to work under periods of stress and manage stressful situations
