Nexant, Inc. is a leading provider of energy and carbon management consulting services to electric utilities, energy producers, and energy end-users worldwide. The company is currently seeking a Project Engineer in energy efficiency, energy management, and green buildings applications for our Chandler, AZ office.
Nexant is also currently seeking junior level Engineers and Sr. Project Engineers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Engineer position is responsible for managing energy efficiency utility programs and meeting or exceeding program participation goals. This includes identifying key market participants and building strong business relationships, identifying and developing new business opportunities and consistently closing the sale on cost effective energy efficiency opportunities.
The position works with commercial, industrial and institutional facility customers in identifying and effectively communicating energy cost savings and operational improvement opportunities as they relate to mechanical, electrical, lighting and control systems. It is responsible for answering customer inquiries, mentoring customers through the application process and is responsible for reviewing and explaining reports that summarize results, savings calculations and utility rebate amounts.
The position is responsible for initiating and implementing outreach efforts, providing training and support for all energy efficiency programs to customer and trade ally groups, which include contractors, developers, manufacturers, distributors and their networks of dealers and customers. It is responsible for working with vendors in the field to encourage and support participation in the programs and when appropriate, adds credibility to the project by meeting with customers and their selected vendor to help legitimize the program and the anticipated implementation cost/saving.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors or master’s degree in mechanical, or electrical engineering, or equivalent. Mechanical Engineering degree is preferred.
Minimum of 4 years experience working in or interfacing with the utility industry, or a minimum of 3 years working within the energy efficiency or building efficiency industry.
Working understanding of energy efficiency measures building systems that include: HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, compressors, motors, variable speed drives, lighting, refrigeration, process automation and controls.
Demonstrated understanding of building science concepts, heating/cooling and various manufacturing process loads.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a diverse array of projects simultaneously to on scope, on budget and on schedule conclusion.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrated mastery of verbal and writing communications.
Experience in marketing and selling and the ability to sell cost effective energy efficiency opportunities and meet revenue goals.
An understanding of how to estimate anticipated energy savings using industry best practices and/or acceptable engineering principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
P.E., C.E.M., C.E.A. or LEED APcertification
Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and control systems
Experience in green building, sustainability and carbon management
Successful candidate will:
The successful candidate will have an effective understanding of the utility industry and will stay current on rapidly changing technologies and the affect these technologies have on energy usage. He or she will have an intimate understanding of the eligibility requirements, the participation process and the available incentives of each energy efficiency program.
This person will develop strong personal relationships with individuals by serving as a single point of contact for all of the energy efficient programs offered through the utility. He or she will have exceptional interpersonal skills and will be able to effectively interface with corporate executives, facility managers, engineers, contractors and trade ally groups, while identifying worthwhile energy efficiency projects, effectively communicating technical and energy savings information in an effort to sell these opportunities.
This person will enjoy selling and delivering an effective close. He or she will have a good understanding of electric energy efficiency strategies and measures; building operating systems; the energy performance of buildings; benchmarking; measurement and verification (M&V); equipment systems commissioning; retro-commissioning of existing buildings; and will be able to provide a wide array of energy services to utility clients.
This person will be able to work effectively in a mobile environment, spending approximately 50% of the time in the field, while promptly responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner.
