Brittany Hollenbach suffered serious head injuries after a red 1995 Honda Civic struck her as she ran across Northeast 50th Street, following a group of people, according to the police report.
Brittany Hollenbach, a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and a senior at the UW, was taken off life support yesterday. She had been in critical condition for most of Wednesday after she was hit by a car while running across a crosswalk on Tuesday around midnight.
“At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with Brittany’s friends and family,” said Cori Hammock, assistant director in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
Hammock said her office is working to provide members of Hollenbach’s chapter with the resources they need — including connecting sisters with the UW Counseling Center — to cope with the tragedy.
“The driver saw the people run across as the traffic signal turned green for eastbound traffic on Northeast 50th. As he continued through the intersection, a 22-year-old female running in the same crosswalk ran into the path of his car,” according to the Seattle Police Department blotter.
The Seattle Fire Department arrived at the scene and transported Hollenbach to Harborview Medical Center.
The driver of the Honda, a 20-year-old man, was released shortly after questioning, as investigators found no sign of drug or alcohol impairment.
A vigil for Hollenbach will be held tonight at the sorority from 7 to 9 p.m.
