Martina McBride and George Strait perform at the 43rd Annual Country Music Awards in Nashville, Tenn. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009.
George Strait will have a "very limited role" in A Pure Country Gift, a new film starring singer-songwriter Katrina Elam, his publicist confirmed Tuesday (Nov. 10). Filming has been underway for several weeks in Nashville, but Strait will not be present Wednesday (Nov. 11) when a concert scene is shot at the Municipal Auditorium. Little has been revealed about the plot, although a posting for extras on the Tennessee Film, Entertainment and Music Commission's Web site describes it as "feature film sequel." Strait starred in the 1992 film, Pure Country, as country singer Dusty Chandler. Elam, a native of Bray, Okla., was just 16 when she signed a songwriter's deal with a major music publishing company in Nashville. Universal South Records released her self-titled debut album in 2004. Two singles from the project made it to Billboard's country songs chart -- "No End in Sight" and "I Want a Cowboy." A projected release date for A Pure Country Gift has not been announced.
