
Thai contestant Kangsadal Wongdusadeekul was the first runner-up while Brazilian Daniela Marques came in as second runner-up.
According to a Kyodo report, Haruna - formerly known as Kenji Onishi - was awarded US$10,000 (RM34,125), a tiara and a trophy.
The organisers said 21 contestants from Thailand, Japan, the Philippines, the United States, China and Brazil took part in the contest.
The contest, held for the fifth time, aims to promote tolerance and a positive attitude towards transs-exuals and transvestites. Thailand is well known for its acceptance of this group of people, who are often shunned in other societies.
