Paris Hilton had taken to calling him her 'future husband', but Paris Hilton's dreams of happily ever after have been abruptly cut short.
The heiress has suddenly split from boyfriend Doug Reinhardt after just six months of dating.
The break-up comes despite Paris, 28, and The Hills star, 23, declaring their love for each other at every opportunity during their short-lived but very high-profile courtship.
Just days ago Paris told talk show host Jimmy Kimmel that her boyfriend was 'hotter than Brad Pitt'.
Last month, Doug a former professional baseball player, gushed: 'Paris is so special to me. She is the one, I knew it the moment I met her. I am going to ask her to marry me but I can’t say when. I don’t want to ruin the surprise.'
Now their very public union is over, the blonde socialite is asking the media for privacy.
'In response to the inquiry on whether Paris Hilton has split up with Doug Reinhardt, yes, this is true they are no longer together,' Hilton's rep told America's People magazine.
'They remain friends and ask that you please respect their privacy.'
Reinhardt's rep had no immediate comment.
Paris has had a string of boyfriends, including Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden, and she has been engaged twice before.
In 2002 she was due to marry model Jason Shaw but the relationship fizzled out.
Three years later and she was said to be engaged to the Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis but the relationship did not last.
While her love life may be in tatters, her television career remains on track and she is currently working on yet another series of her reality show, Paris Hilton: My New Best Friend.
