Job Summary:
The Development Assistant’s primarily responsible is to support the Development Director. This includes activities related to the annual operating fund (“Annual Campaign and duties related to special fundraising projects.
Skill and Educational Requirements:
Required: Bachelors Degree and three years experience in nonprofit fundraising and development. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications especially Access, Word, and Outlook; Excellent phone, organizational, and multi-tasking skills. Desire and commitment to serving the needs of the youth and education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Development Department
Maintain an accurate, updated agency donor and volunteer database.
Coordinate and perform database maintenance. Provide database training to staff as needed and assist with database queries.
Develop and maintain the Development filing system and hard files.
Prepare and send donor Thank You letters ideally with 24 48 hours of receipt of the gift and within no more than one week.
Assist with special projects, meetings, and events.
Assist with grant acknowledgment letters and reports.
Prepare information for donor and prospective donor visits.
Provide administrative support.
Assist with special fundraising events and solicitations, including facility, food, logistics, and communications.
Attend Development Committee Meetings and takes notes. Prepare agendas, meeting logistics, and other support materials at the request of the Development Director.
General Support Serves as back up only as needed
Cover for the front desk volunteers by answering the phone, assisting with the mail, and greeting visitors.
Capital Campaign:
Help maintain clear records and requests
Assist in the management of documentation and correspondence related to the campaign
Report data in discovery and preparation of campaign proposals
Update campaign totals and reports
Communicate with counsel to review current campaign issues
Maintain the campaign calendar including proposal due dates, meetings and calls scheduled.

Working Conditions:
Work duties primarily occur in the Khabele School setting. Will occasionally involve attending meetings and functions at locations other than the school. A significant amount of time is spent on the computer. Requires a substantial amount of face to face interaction and phone contact with staff, families, donors, outside professionals, and the general public. Involves physical tasks related to office administration.
Needed Attributes:
Excellent communication skills, highly organized and able to multi-task; ability to work in a busy office environment with little privacy. Ability to maintain files and data accurately. Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal communications. Ability to work independently, organize work efficiently, Ability to interact in a positive manner in person and on the phone.
Location: 801 Rio Grande
Compensation: $40,000 per year plus benefits
