Job Description for Preschool Director
Prince of Peace is searching for an energetic, experienced and visionary leader to join our ministry team as Preschool Director. Our preschool is a highly visible and successful ministry to children and families and has become an institution in the Arcadia neighborhood over the past 42 years. Our ideal candidate will have an active faith life, an understanding of the Lutheran Church, possess both outstanding administrative skills and the wisdom and personality to serve as the public face of the preschool. This is a full-time, exempt position that requires the ability to work outside a standard 9am-5pm timeframe when necessary.
Essential Functions:
Develop and implement the vision of the preschool as an integral part of Prince of Peace’s overall care and outreach efforts to children and families
Develop and promote programs within the preschool that nurture children as they begin their faith journeys
Develop and promote programs within the preschool that empower parents to live out their calling to be the primary spiritual guides for their children
Recruit, train, empower and retain an excellent staff (teachers, aides, office staff)
Ensure preschool compliance with all Arizona State regulations
Comply with NAEYC standards for classroom teachers and student/teacher ratios
Maintain excellent communication and rapport with parents, staff and church members
Conduct regular classroom visits and perform annual staff evaluations
Prepare and manage the annual budget
Conduct monthly preschool staff meetings; attend monthly preschool board meetings and weekly management team meetings
Manage overall operations including repairs/replacement of school equipment, ordering supplies, providing school tours and performance of monthly fire drills.
Serve as a consistent, strong and graceful presence in conflict resolution
Skills Needed:
Ability to cast a vision and maintain focus on that vision
Expertise in early childhood education
Ability to teach the Christian faith to small children
Advanced communication and conflict management skills
Flexibility of mind and schedule
General budgeting and financial skills
Ability to use basic office technology (MS Office, E-mail, Phones, etc.)
Proven ability to administer a small but vibrant organization, including staff management
Qualifications:
Minimum Bachelors level degree with preference for training in Early Childhood Education
Minimum five (5) years experience in Early Childhood education preferably in a Christian setting
Ability to pass a complete background and reference check
Supervision:
The Preschool Director reports to the Preschool Board of Directors. The lead pastor or his designee supervises and evaluates this position, with input from the Preschool Board.
