Nineteen-year-old Brittany Lyons, former St. Andrew High School student, walked away with the title at the Grand Coronation show held at the Hilton, Kingston Hotel on Saturday, August 16. Lyons withstood the competition from fifteen other beautiful women to walk away with the title and the chance to represent Jamaica in the Miss World Contest.
It is a family tradition as Lyons is following in the footsteps of her mother going one step further to win the title. Her mother, Marie-Claire Delapenha was first runner to Miss Jamaica World 1980, Michele Harris.
Jade Grant was first runner-up (first princess) to Lyons while Marshagay Reynolds was second runner-up (second princess). Raecine Williams and Chaka Laguerre rounded out the top five.
Brittany Lyons also walked away with the Aqua Essential Beach Beauty Award. Yanique Levy won the Most Congenial Award as well as Supreme Ventures Miss Jamaica World Sports; Monique Daley won the SoftSheen Model title, Marshagay Reynolds, Jergens Miss Jamaica World Talent while Raecine Williams copped Most Aware and the Spartan Health Club’s Beauty with a Purpose Award.
Lyons now turns her attention to preparing for the Miss World which will be held later on this year. Lyons will represent Jamaica among what is expected to be a record number of countries in the Miss World Pageant this year.
