I work for a teaching supply company in Auburn Hills, MI. The company is called Teachers Discovery. What I am looking for is someone who has some perspective on Mexican and/or Mexican-American culture in order to relate to Spanish teachers more interested in culture than vocabulary and deal well with the subject matter of this project. I need something inspired by Mexican culture, perhaps in a Mexican folk art style. I only need 4 black and white line drawings, no shading, medium detail.
*
These will be used in 2.5 x 6 inch black and white, colorable bookmarks for students, to be marketed, as mentioned, to Spanish teachers. This will be cut in a wavy pattern. I will give you a template if I select you for the job, so there will be no need to create one. There will be text applied to these bookmarks, but I will do that. It just needs to be kept in mind as there needs to be a place for me to put it.
*
The subject matter is as follows:
-Papa Noel
-kid whacking star pinata with stick as it breaks and treats begin to stream down
-painted lowrider car in Cinco de Mayo parade (or parade suggested)
-mariachi singer enthusiatically playing guitar or other applicable instrument
*
General instruction is that these need an authentic feeling South of the border flair, figures need to be lively and perhaps a little exaggerated (in order to be lively in BW 2D art). There needs to be an illustion of depth and movement (pinata seems to swing toward viewer and kid appears in mid swing; car seems to move forward through street and minimalist parade viewers are in different levels of closeness). My company rejected some earlier art because it lacked these qualities, leaving me in my current predicament. I am not opposed to this getting a little silly. My company welcomes randomness. For instance, I have no objection to a luchador appearing somewhere or Papa Noels gifts including whoopee cushions. While this is not always my taste, I think my art would have been approved if I had been sillier. So, keep it in mind. I need art approved this time.
*
Timeline: I need this yesterday. I need rough sketches of designs within 24 hours of selection, and the designs digitally rendered within 48 hours of sketch approval. I know this schedule is tight, but I have no choice.
*
Submission Format: layered .eps file and 300 dpi .pdf.
*
Pay: I will pay $3 each for sketches and $60 to have the illustrations rendered. Keep in mind, this is for education.
*
Requirements Summary:
-willingness to telecommute via email and quickly (timeline does not allow for next day email responses)
-independent access to Adobe Illustrator
-ability to work within my time limit and budget
-understanding of Mexican and/or Mexican-American culture and ability to work in a style influenced by this understanding
-ability to work on this project now and have completed within the week
