signed a month to month to try the gym. asked about working out early and asked about how to cancel if if didnt work out. Manager told me that the early mornings are slow and i just had to call before my billing date. a few months later i decided that i didnt like the gym and called to cancel. the lady stated that i would have to come in to cancel. i came in and actually talked to the manager who signed me up and he remembered me and our conversation. my wife and i stood in front of him as he recalled that he remember that i had asked about the cancelling as i was walking out the door and normally he highlights the cancel procedure on the contract but cant recall if had done that on my contract. i asked if we were square and we shook hands as that manager said point blank, WE WERE SQUARE ! regardless, they had me sign a peice of paper and told me to mail it in to the corporate office.
a day after the next billing cycle would have taken place i received 12 calls while at work from LA FITNESS stating that they were having problems with my account. i called and told them that i had cancelled and that it should show it on their computers. they said they had no such info and my account was still active. i call the coroprate office and they claim they never received my notice and that i woul;d have to contact the manager at my gym to strainten it out.
i called this manager and explained that my account was still active. he remembered me but he claimed that he had told me that i would have to file the paperwork with corprate 20 days before my billing cycle and that doesnt include how long it takes for my letter to get to corporate and that it takes some time for corporate to read my letter. i reminded him that he had told me i only had to call in and it would be cancelled and that we had shaken hands and agreed we were sqaure. he said that he would have never had said that and he remembers shaking hands but never agreed we were square.
i cancelled my credit card and called corporate again. corporate claimed theres nothing they can do on theyre end and that i would have to work it out with the manager from my gym. you know the one that just lied to me. the one who claimed it would only take a phone call. so i called again trying to get him to resolve this and all he did was deny what he said originally and when i told him my wife and i heard him say that we were square as we shook hands. he then told me that my wife and i were both lairs and he had nothing else to say to me.
what else can i do to resolve this. at this point im paid up to november 21st and they claim i still owe them a months membership fee. do yourself a favor, i your going to join a gym, dont join LA FITNESS.
