I went to the doctor with extremely high blood pressure and he prescribed calcium blockers which did control the problem. However, he wondered what the cause was because I am in shape, exercise, eat a balanced diet and am generally very healthy. He had blood work done and found that my red blood cells were not all the same size. He said that could was an indication of niacin definciency and the niacin deficiency could also cause the high blood pressure. I started taking time release niacin daily and shortly after stopped the calcium blockers. My blood pressure is controlled without the use of drugs. By all means have your doctor check EVERYTHING and stick with his instructions. I am 55 and in better health than most that are half my age.
