Are you moving up in the world Are you on the
fast track Well a resume is the key to opening
the doors of opportunity and getting invited in,
but today a resume alone isn’t enough.
Think about it. If you’re sharp and moving up.
If you’re looking for a huge salary increase by
working for a new company, in a new industry,
or working for the competition that’s hungry
for your talent -- you’re not alone.
There are hundreds, maybe thousands of
people interested in your new job! How do you stop
them from taking it from you
==Your Strategic Partner==
I used to be the hiring manager for an
international agency with offices in Japan and the
USA. My staff and I hired over 70 people for various
projects, with only two weeks to fill each vacancy.
Maybe a few months, for a high-level position.
The high-level positions were the toughest because
that’s where we had the most risk. The salaries were
huge and their decisions affected hundreds of
employees.
Even with hundreds of resumes to choose from,
we could only hire one.
On paper, they all looked qualified. They were all:
Ambitious, trained, experienced, and educated, like you.
Honestly, the one thing my staff wanted was
to go home and enjoy our time off.
You see, hiring staff don’t just hire new blood. Far from it.
They deal with retirement plans, health insurance, training,
meetings, disgruntled employees, maternity leave, payroll,
and much more.
When a candidate had a persuasively written cover
letter, and followed-up with us, and sent us a thank
you card, along with a strong resume - that made our
job easier.
We knew who really wanted the job. We remembered
who they were, and they stood out from the hundreds of others
who applied.
A side effect was that these people would almost always
get a second or third look. It proved to us, who was hungry for the
opportunity. And who was just “cold callingfor a job!
The other applicants, with only a resume, were quickly
forgotten and lost among the pile of paperwork.
In this situation, since they took the extra time and effort to
tell us more about themselves on the cover letter, on
the follow-up letter, and their thank you card, the odds
worked for them.
They actually competed in a vacuum. The competition
became invisible.
This is what you want compete in a vacuum.
==A Resume Alone Isn’t Enough==
Job hunting is a sales and marketing event.
You need to develop a job hunting system that
includes your resume and a persuasively written
cover letter, follow-up letter, and thank you letter,
at a minimum.
Each document must move the sales process
forward and continue promoting you and packaging
your strengths, and it must be persuasive get
your new boss to call you for the interview and hire YOU.
The dirty-little secret is that most “smart, experienced,
trained, and educatedprofessionals don’t bother. They’re
cold-calling for a job. This gives YOU a competitive advantage.
You compete in a vacuum; your competition disappears
into the shredder and gets deleted.
If you want to move up in your career and get paid
what you’re worth you need to hire and work with
someone who understands the psychology and stress
a hiring manger lives under.
And on top of that, that person must have proven skills
in persuasion through writing.
To stay on and excel on the fast track you need to
hire and work with a professional that has all these skills
above at bare minimum. And you won’t find many
who have both the real world, street smart experience as a
hiring manager and persuasive sales writing skills.
